Pensacola Doers: People who make a difference

Tori Rutland

Outreach Coordinator, North Hill Preservation Association Inc.

• Nominator: Melanie Nichols.

• What the nominator said: I would like to nominate Tori Rutland, the outreach coordinator for the North Hill Preservation Association Inc., as a Pensacola Doer.

Tori is a supporting spouse of an active duty military officer and the mother of their two young boys, yet she still finds time to spend countless volunteer hours in support of our area’s homeless population. Through Tori’s efforts, the North Hill Preservation Association has been able to increase our Community Outreach Program from two organized events per year, to a year-round Outreach Program.

Now, in addition to our neighborhood-wide Manna Bank Food Drive and our Toys for Tots Toy Drive, we are providing support to homeless families through the Loaves and Fishes Family Shelter. Each month, Tori meets with staff at Loaves and Fishes and identifies their current needs and then organizes collection drives within the North Hill Neighborhood. Through her work organizing and rallying volunteers and donors within the North Hill Historic District, we have been able provide basic essentials for Loaves and Fishes, such as soap, shampoo, razors and deodorant, in addition to special items for children such as books, school supplies, art supplies and games.

Tori’s energy and compassion for all children and families is contagious and we are very thankful for all her hard work and dedication. Thank you for your support in recognizing her as one of Pensacola’s Doers.

About the series

The greater Pensacola area is changing all the time, and we’ve only just begun to realize what Escambia and Santa Rosa counties can be.

The Pensacola News Journal’s People of Influence series is recognizing the Doers, who are shaping Pensacola right now; the Seekers, college students and new professionals who are just getting started; and the Dreamers, children who will help shape the next 125 years of life in our region, as the PNJ celebrates 125 years of bringing news to the Pensacola area. We will highlight people who want to help our communities reach their collective potential.

To nominate someone, please tell us whether they are a Doer, a Seeker or a Dreamer and include your name, their name, contact information (email and phone number), occupation or school. Also include a photo and a description of what they are doing to improve our area. Email your nomination to No anonymous submissions will be accepted.
