Preservation Preserves Our History & Our Property Values

North Hill is on the National Registry of Historic Places, which is the official list of the Nation’s historic places and structures worthy of preservation.  As such, there are guidelines to the preservation and restoration of these historic structures.  The North Hill Preservation District is protected under Section 12-2-10 of the City of Pensacola Municipal Code.

As part of our preservation education and outreach initiatives, the Welcome Committee visits each new property owner in the district, giving them a Welcome Packet which contains a copy of the City’s Municipal Code, map of the district, contact info for Architectural Review information and copies of application forms, in addition to information about the neighborhood, our events and projects.

While the recognized neighborhood boundaries of the North Hill District are much larger, the boundaries of the area covered under the municipal code were established in the 1970’s by vote of the property owners and City Council. This may help you to understand why the boundary lines are irregular and do not include many, many historic structures. If your home is on a street with a “Brown” street sign, and included within the boundaries of this map, then ALL exterior restoration/ repair/ reconstruction and major landscape redesign, must be approved by the City’s Architectural Review Board.
